    Reduce Stress to Reduce Acne

Wilson HelenBy Wilson HelenAugust 6, 20112 Comments2 Mins Read

Acne is a skin condition that can develop due to a various number of reasons one being stress.

Acne can be caused when stress makes the androgen hormone induce excessive production of oil by the sebaceous glands that clog the pores of the hair follicles. When bacteria and dirt begins to produce within the blocked pores acne formation becomes inevitable this is called stress acne.

Some basic treatments for reducing acne include the use of benzoyl peroxide that help kill bacteria and unclogs the pores. A concentration of 2.5-5% of the cream should be applied onto the affected areas.  A higher concentration of the medication should only be used in the case of severe acne since it can damage the skin and even exacerbate the condition. Another over the counter medication that can be used includes salicylic acid that works towards skin cell regeneration and prevents the growth of dead skin cells therefore reducing the clogging up of the pores.

There are several ways of going about treating the skin condition; one method can be to simply treat the problem with topical treatments or antibiotics that can get rid of the problem in the short run however in the long run the acne condition might reappear therefore it is a better option to start working on the root cause, which in this case is stress.

Some good tips for relieving stress include working on stressful situations, going for aroma therapy, exercising or doing yoga to stimulate the body as well as the mind. Establishing a healthy lifestyle and routine can help reduce stress to quite an extent. One should also take time out to relax through meditation and deep breathing. Increasing the level of physical activity can enhance a person’s wellbeing; this basically works when the body releases neurotransmitters called endorphins. Added with stress reduction techniques a person should work on taking constant care for the skin, to reduce the likelihood of acne formation. This can be done by washing the skin at least twice a day and avoiding the use of comedogenic products.
