Acne is a frequent skin condition which according to study is unpreventable; the acne sufferers can be people of any age.

The problem lies not only in the extensive commonality of the skin condition but the limitless variations of the skin condition and its severity. In the United Stated 85 percent of the population suffers from acne at some point in their lives. It is a known myth that only adolescents suffer from acne in which case the problem is believed to disappear on its own.

On the contrary health experts and doctors state that leaving the acne condition as it is will only make matters a lot worse. It is more likely that skin condition will deteriorate and spread further.  Numerous treatments are available for treating the acne however before treating the acne it is essential to identify the level of severity of the acne and its type to follow the right form of acne treatment.

The common types of acne can be categorized between mild acne and severe acne. Mild acne includes white heads and blackheads that develop as a result of sebum and dirt trapped in the clogged pores. Blackheads appear black to the naked eye since the sebum and oil are exposed to oxidization as the opening of the skin pores remain open. It is difficult to remove the blackhead using anti bacterial products therefore it is favorable to apply gentle cleansers or castor oil that can pull out the black heads from its roots. White heads on the other hand appear as red bumps filled with pus. The best treatment for whiteheads is antibacterial medication or creams such as products that contain benzoyl peroxide or salicylic acid.

Nodules and cysts come under the severe acne category. The affected area is often swollen, sore followed by irritated and inflammation of the skin. Such acne is painful therefore frequent popping and rubbing can make the acne condition poorer. For severe acne stronger medication is usually prescribed such as topical treatments and antibiotics that kill the bacteria and abate the pain.

Acne problems are basically unavoidable however the best way to reduce the likelihood of acne development is improvement in hygiene, routine and diet. In case simple acne treatments do not work it is advisable to consult a dermatologist.
