Home Remedies for Black Toenail Fungus

Nadia JohnsonBy Nadia JohnsonMay 21, 2023No Comments3 Mins Read

Onychomycosis, also known as black toenail fungus, is a fungal infection of the nail that causes discoloration and enlargement. It is frequently confused with subungual melanoma, a type of skin malignancy. Common fungal infections of the toenail can cause discoloration or blackening of the nail.

Fortunately, black toenail fungus is significantly more prevalent than melanoma and can be treated effectively with over-the-counter medications or simple home remedies.

    Home Remedies

    i) Vinegar

The vinegar’s acidity kills the fungus, while its antibacterial properties prevent the infection from spreading. With regular vinegar applications, you can quickly restore your nails to their former grandeur. It is a safe and inexpensive method of treatment that can be administered at home without the need for prescription medications or expensive medical visits.

    ii) Garlic

Garlic contains antifungal properties that can destroy fungi and reduce the risk of reinfection. In addition, garlic helps alleviate the symptoms of this condition, including inflammation, discomfort, and redness. It is an affordable, natural, and side-effect-free solution to the problem.

    iii) Oregano Oil

Oregano oil has antifungal properties that aid in reducing inflammation and eradicating the fungus-causing infection. Additionally, oregano oil can support a stronger immune system and lessen discomfort brought on by black toenail fungus. Oregano oil can be a safe and effective treatment for black toenail fungus when applied properly.

    iv) Vicks VapoRub

Vicks VapoRub is a remedy available without a prescription that has been used for many years to treat a variety of maladies. Recent reports indicate that Vicks VapoRub can be used to treat black toenail fungus. This topical cream contains menthol and other ingredients believed to reduce the inflammation caused by this condition. It is essential to note, however, that this remedy may not work for everyone and that a doctor should be consulted prior to beginning any treatment for black toenail fungus.

    v) Making Changes to Diet

Dietary modifications can be an effective treatment for this condition. This includes consuming antioxidant-rich foods such as garlic, ginger, and chilli peppers. Eating probiotic-rich foods such as yoghurt and sauerkraut can also alleviate the symptoms of toenail fungus. In addition, avoiding processed foods high in sugar and carbohydrates can reduce the likelihood of developing this condition.

When Should You See a Doctor for Black Toenail Fungus Treatment?

Commonly, black toenail fungus can cause discoloration, thickening, and fracturing of the toenail. Without treatment, it can cause pain and discomfort. It is essential to know when to seek medical treatment for your black toenail fungus. If you experience any of the following symptoms, it is recommended that you visit your doctor: persistent nail discoloration, severe pain or swelling in the afflicted area, or an infection that does not respond to over-the-counter medications. Your physician will be able to assess your condition and recommend the most effective treatment options.
